Site update
by atai @ 10:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: misc

We’ve moved over to Wordpress now and still in the process of fine-tuning some of the little things like font size, colours, etc…

For the old posts, we will not be doing any changes to them even though the alignment is out, etc…

We appreciate any feedbacks and comments on the new changes.

by atai @ 18:06 | Comments (3) | Filed under: gatherings, misc

This post is to help us organise a gathering for the coming Chinese New Year…

From the Friends of Seaport Forum (beta):
Hi guys and girls…

Chinese New Year is approaching. It is supposed to be 18th and 19th Feb 2007, which is a Sun and Mon. Most likely Tue will be a holiday as well.

Anyway, I’m sure many would like to take this opportunity to meet up with old friends, etc… OK, this is first year I give angpow… Smile

So to start the ball rolling, can I propose we meet up on 24th Feb 2007. It is the following Saturday. Probably first place we meet will be somewhere in ss5 at 10am.

How?

I would also like to take this opportunity to:
1. invite everyone to register yourself in the forum
2. wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year… Gong Xi Fa Cai!

I Want Blood!
by atai @ 21:24 | Comments (0) | Filed under: misc

(copied from Dean’s blog)

You heard me… If you’re healthy, not infected with Hepatitis X, Y or Z, not carrying any STDs, have not been eating any crazy cows lately, then I want you!

But most important of all, you must have a big heart – if you literally have one, that’s even better!

If you have the time this weekend, please spare a moment for SP Alumni’s BLOOD DONATION DRIVE to replenish the Blood Bank’s dwindling supply due to the fasting (Ramadhan) month.

Details:
Date: 8 October 2006 (Sunday)
Time: 09:30 – 15:30
Venue: Sekolah Menengah Sri Permata (SM Seaport High School)
SS3 Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya

The campaign will be officiated by some Dato’ and some ex- MBPJ Councillor, I think, but who gives a dem about these politicians, eh?

Kind souls who are willing to lend their arms to be poked by KLGH’s beautiful nurses will be given a cup of hot Milo, some biscuits and slices of fruit cakes, iron pills if you feel nauseated, and the best of all, a certificate as a proof of your bravery!

I’d love to join but unfortunately I’m fasting… I shall contribute right after Raya when there’ll be plenty more people in the ER as a result of driving on Semi Value’s highway during the mass holiday exodus. So come over this weekend and bring your juicy ass able bodies!

TSA-KDU Charity Carnival 2006
by atai @ 8:17 | Comments (0) | Filed under: misc

Total Sports Asia (TSA) in collaboration with KDU College have embarked on a mission to bring some cheer to some children and the senior citizens. We are jointly organizing a Charity Carnival with the sale of food & bric-a-brac, appearances & performances by local celebrity & selected CLEO Bachelors 2006, and games and entertainment.

All proceeds from this event will be channeled towards the adoption of Yayasan Sunbeams Home & Phyllis Caring Home. The funds collected will be used to provide these homes with the necessities required for the upkeep of the homes and its occupants.

Yayasan Sunbeams Home
No. 54, Jalan Bunga Melor 16A, Taman Mawar,
56100, Kuala Lumpur.
Phone: 03-42953949 / 42967030 / 42960867
Contact Person: Pastor Victor Maniam

Yayasan Sunbeams Home – located in Taman Mawar Cheras, this facility houses 50 children. A foster home to orphanages and less privileged children and a center for troubled youths, this center is in need of beds, a fridge, a washing machine & consumables.

Phyllis Caring Home
No. 19 Jln 12/12,
Petaling Jaya,
46200, Selangor D.E.
Phone: 03-79560799
Contact Person: Mdm Phyllis Nathan

Phyllis Caring Home – located in Section 12, Petaling Jaya houses about 20 senior citizens. With little or nothing to fend for themselves, the occupants will call this place home till they are called by their Creator to rest in peace. This home is in need of medical supplies & consumables

Small as it may seem, we intend to bring a little joy and cheer into their lives and their smile will say it all.

Why? Because they deserve a life too…

We hope you are able to participate in this cause by spreading the word around, support the cause by purchasing the Coupon (RM10 each) and of course come and join us on August 19 from 9am -5pm at KDU College!

You may purchase the booklet on the day itself and also early purchases can be made from Ms Winnie Chan (now you know why this is posted on Friends of Seaport) or Ms Shirley Goh at +60 3 76609611. Please be assured that it is not our intention to profit from this Carnival, but only to help raise funds for the welfare of the less fortunate folks.

So come and join us for great local delicacies including the famous Sister’s Popiah & Bakin’ Boys Cookies & Muffins, fun games such as Wheel of Fortune, Mini Golf, Dunk-In Games, PS2 FIFA World Cup Challenge, Rock Climbing Paintball Target Shooting, Water Blast and many more!

If you’re lucky you’ll win some of our fantastic prizes such as:
- Original World Wrestling Entertainment T-shirts, Phone Straps & VCDs (courtesy of Sendi Mutiara)
- Children’s Stationery & Toys
- A Hamper worth RM800 sponsored by KDU Management, and last but not least
- A 1-night stay in Eastin Hotel with breakfast for 2 sponsored by Eastin Hotel.

Let’s do what we possibly can to bring smiles to their faces.

Many, many thanks from all of us.

Winnie

I am looking for you
by atai @ 22:19 | Comments (7) | Filed under: misc

Ever wondered what ever happened to the cute girl who sat next to you back in Standard 1? Or the jerk who used to pull your hair every recess? It has been that many years since we left primary school… Or secondary school for that matter.

Every now and then… I still wonder whatever happened to people I know like LAM Yoke Yen (if I remember correctly, she moved to Taiwan back in 1986), Mark CHONG, Ezral, HO Ching Lit, LEE Mun Fei, Manimaran and many more…?

This is also what made me start this blog… With the hope it will help connect one friend to another. After all, we are SEAPORTIANS. We are one of the few lucky ones to be able to call ourselves Seaportians (since the school is now called Sri Permata).

If you are like me and do wonder whatever happened to someone, just leave the name of the person, a brief description of the person (if you can still remember) and perhaps leave a contact so that the person you are looking for may contact you.

And if you happen to be the person or knows the person we are looking for, do ask them to drop by and leave a message in the comments…

Updates from the Alumni‘s Desk

Greetings and a Happy New Year to you. The Alumni which was formed by a dedicated and determined group of people on 4th of March 2005 has begun its journey, albeit late, to grow and we are currently seeking for former students of Sekolah Menengah Sri Permata or Sekolah Menengah Seaport who are keen to be members of this association. If you know anyone who is interested to join us, please do not hesitate to contact our membership committee member, Natalie Ambrose at 012-2848542 or any of the other committee members. Interested former students can also download the Membership Registration Form from our web site.

The committee has put up a simple web site for the Alumni under our very own domain address. At the moment the web site is still under development but for now you can still access to view notices and download documents such as the Membership Registration Forms, Membership & Contact Update Forms and the constitution. Please visit us at www.spalumni.com.

The Alumni will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Sekolah Menengah Sri Permata, Jalan SS3/98, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Saturday, 11 March 2006 at 2.00 p.m. Notice and details of the AGM is in the annual report attached. We urge youto renew your membership for the next year by completing the Membership & Contact Update Form attached and fax it to 03-7803 6014. The renewal fee is only RM25 a year and you can pay the fee during the AGM.

As a member of the Alumni, you are entitled to a proxy to represent yourself should you not be able to make it for this meeting. Please advice your proxy to us by completing the proxy form attached in the annual report. Fax your proxy form to 03-7803 6014 at least forty-eight (48) hours before the meeting.

The Alumni has only just begun its endless journey to bring more thanjust networking to its members. We as former students of the school should be proud of ourselves and the people who have put in the efforts to form this organization just to ensure we stay connected. On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank you for your patience and continuous support for this organization. I am confident that this Alumni will play an even greater role in the future under the leadership of the new committee.

Thank you.

Free AirAsia tickets
by atai @ 12:29 | Comments (3) | Filed under: misc

Guys and girls,

I know this is not really related to the school… But just thought this is worth sharing. Since we have lots of friends scattered all over the country, I thought this would be a good thing to share… Help you guys save some money…

In case you didn’t know, AirAsia recently announced they would be giving out 2 000 000 (that’s 2 million) free seats. Until today, they still have about 800 000 seats more to give out.

To make your life easier (because to find the free tickets, you have to try out different combination of departure and return dates), I managed to get a few dates which still provide free tickets. As you can see, there are various destinations… You really need the high-resolution image to see the dates and destinations clearly.

click for large high-res photo
So enjoy… But you better hurry. As you can see from the first image above, offer ends on the 28th Dec 2005. Also, free here means you do not need to pay for the ticket but you will still need to pay for the airport tax.

I know a few of the regular visitors to this site do not actually come from Sek Men Seaport. Some were former students who ‘migrated’ over to Sek Men Keb Kelana Jaya. Others are, as the title of this site says it all… Friends of Sek Men Seaport.

Anyway, if you are one of those who migrated to Sek Men Keb Kelana Jaya, you should be proud. You guys and girls seem to have a better web presence. Check it out at www.smkkelanajaya.com.

As the school is located in Kelana Jaya (please correct me if I’m wrong here), I thought I’d also check out sites about the area.

It seems there is a website for Kelana Jaya. However, it will not be available at the moment cause the site has just been hacked. Yup, you read it here first. Kelana Jaya site was hacked.

As I have told many before (those who asked me for opinion on setting up a website), there are a few things to consider or do, if you want to have a website:
- make sure it is always up-to-date
- make sure it is available all the time (or at least 99.5% of the time)
- make sure it is secure
- if you don’t know how to do the above, get someone who does

With www.kelanajaya.com, the company they got to host the site should really look into security. What company is that? I don’t want to get into any trouble (defamation, etc), but snoop around and you’ll bound to find the answer (else wait for my article on this in Tech Tipz - I do not promise when this article will be out, but it will be…).

FYI, I checked out the webhost’s website. I have to say - NOT IMPRESSIVE for a company that’s supposed to specialise in web-hosting and web-design.

Anyway, back to this site… I guess it should be back to normal in a day or two.

(p/s: if the site owner is reading this… i’m available as a site consultant)
